Vision Day: How We Create Our Blueprint for the Year

Each year, Kelvin and I have a vision day. It’s never looked the same as the year before as it keeps evolving over the years, from colorful vision boarding with collages to financial goal setting. One year we did the seven-day prayer challenge by author and Pastor Concetta Green. The core is always the same: it’s a time for us to grow together, to DREAM together…

This year Kelvin planned our Vision day, weaving in time to reflect on the six questions from Mel Robbins Show’s ‘Best Year Ever’ handout. Our schedule was a blend of spiritual, physical, and emotional work to gain clarity about where God is leading us in 2024 and what our desire is for ourselves and our family, so we can align accordingly in our focus and actions.

For the first time, we’ve decided to share our vision day publicly. Why? Because we’ve felt inspired by other couples who show their commitment and intentionality. Our marriage, like any, isn’t perfect. But if our journey can light a spark in another couple, then it’s a process worth sharing.

A ‘reset’ isn’t confined to a New Year. It can happen at any seasonal change – the start of a school year, a corporate fiscal year, or even a spiritual new year. What’s important is to have a time where we pause and reflect.

For us, this day is about asking critical questions: What do we truly want? What’s working, and what’s not? It’s about breaking cycles that don’t serve us, as repeating the same actions and expecting different results is, quite frankly, insanity.

“Where there is no vision, the people perish…”

No matter what this year holds, the vision and desires you have (or lack thereof) will direct your ship - responses and actions. Your garden will grow regardless - either with weeds or with fruit…. You get the picture.

This process looks different for each person. Please don’t compare yourself to what others do and what you “should” be doing. That’s not the point here. Whether it’s today or three months from now or six, we hope you’re inspired to take time to reflect on your own life and get a vision, a sense of purpose - not in what you do necessarily but in WHO you were created to be - and you are able to experience the meaning and beauty you desire.

The best is yet to come.
