Sometimes Dreams Come True

We waited almost six months before introducing the kids to each other. We knew we were 100% sure about each other before making that decision.

What happened the week they met and in the months since then has amazed us. Kelvin’s kids embraced Emma and began calling her their sister before we even got engaged.

They are all the best of friends. They look out for each other. They see each other’s differences, they see each other’s colors, and they are perfectly okay with being completely different individuals.

They don’t have to be the same to love each other. Their love and respect for each other creates an unbreakable bond. They are an example to us all.

I’m amazed that God has given Emma and I such a sweet family.

One time someone asked me what my ideal husband would be like and I told her that this might sound weird, but I’ve always hoped I would marry a single dad with kids. A single dad who loves Jesus.

Over the years, Emma would sometimes say to me, “Mom, I want siblings. I really miss my brothers and sisters in heaven.”

And so I would pray that I would one day marry someone with kids. Not to replace the four babies that I lost, but to have both a husband and more kids to love.

One day, a man I admired, a man who was already my friend, a man who loves Jesus, a man with four beautiful children .... this man would ask me out for coffee and I would say yes. And now we’re one big colorfully mixed rainbow family.

Never stop dreaming because sometimes even your wildest, most impractical dreams come true!
